Taxi Driver, Opinions? - Flower - 05-24-2021

tbh, I don't understand why Taxi Driver is so popular, i watched it and it seemed like it was a good movie all in all, kinda similar to joker (from 2019), in both a dude cracks and rebels against society but imo Travis Bickle (de Niro's character) is a lot less relatable than phoenix' joker, but maybe that's a individual thing.
I understand that it's a good movie and I also liked it to an extent but not to a point where I think its cult following is undoubtedly justified.
is there something I've missed? symbolism? a hidden message.
