Favorite Japanese Album Releases - SweatyGums - 09-02-2021

I've realized while looking at my whole music collection that I have very little Japanese based artists and albums right now. I don't know very much about the Japanese music scene. What would you guys recommend, what are your favorite Japanese artists and albums? (Any genre)

Depends on what you're into. I'll list some of what I like.

For noise, check out Masonna, Merzbow, Hanatarash, and Hijokaidan.

For experimental rock, check out Melt Banana, Boredoms (there are a few clips on YouTube of Zach Hill drumming with them), and The Mad Capsule Markets.

I second Boris.
Also I find Midori and Violent Magic Orchestra to be great.
