Title: Did social media kill empathy?
Thread Modes
#1
Question
There are countless articles talking about how social media has destroyed our ability to interact face to face with people anymore. Social interaction used to consist of going out for drinks after work, meeting new people and developing personal relationships. Today we interact through a screen that hides the face behind the words, making social interaction much more impersonal and colder than before. It wasn't always cold and impersonal though. Forums, BBSes, video games, and other social platforms created opportunities for real communication and emotional bonding. But now we are at the mercy of advertising companies, governments, and ruthless corporations that want all of our data.

Do you think social media has made people's interactions worse? Have online connections replaced real ones or made people friendlier? How do you feel about it?
