Thread Modes
#1
Turing Machines, interesting moving pictures, game theory, and modular variation. R.I.P John Conway.

Margolus neighborhood/block cellular automata, visualization.
Here's a great online explanation and simulation website under reversible cellular automata
https://dmishin.github.io/js-revca/index.html

A great version of an expanded Langton's Ant in browser, including forking, color changing, and many other additions to the base.
https://daeken.dev/langton/#.FP$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~

an annoyance from the langton's ant implentation is that some of the symbols used have a habit of changing into other symbols, probably because of the way links function, but some trying does result in being able to actually have your input function rather than changing on you
Lmao ?. Shh love you. Starve and feed cold fever. Careful fragile. Don’t worry so much we got you

Conway's game of life is better than real life. In all seriousness though, it does a great job of demonstrating emergent properties arising from simple rules. Small automata working together can create huge structures in ways that blows my mind.

Here is a guide to building a computer out of the game of life.

For real just watched a vid last night about this, what a trip, felt like I was diving into a new timeline.

Kind of intimidating, but I would love to get involved with this shit for art stuff

I wish I had moving pixel sprites all over my room like these. I enjoy the vibe it looks like my child brain trying to compute whether or not to eat cheerios or throw them on the ground

if you want to give it a shot, i used processing for the project i linked. but you could do it with any drawing lib, even just html5 canvas if you wanted : ) my recommendation would be processing / and or processing.p5 -- which has a web editor! https://editor.p5js.org/

Thanks! I'll definitely come back to this thread if I get some time, I love delving into niche stuff like this.
